Between 2015 and 2020, photographer Brice Portolano traveled from the islands of Alaska to the Patagonian steppe and from the forests of Lapland to the highlands of Iran to photographically stage the daily lives of ten extraordinary people.

All of them have turned their backs on their old lives and dared to make a radical new start: in the midst of nature, they have built a life away from the hustle and bustle of the city, mostly without phone signal or internet access. Although this is sometimes very difficult, it means freedom, self-determination, and fulfillment, as well as the feeling of having found the right place in the world: in the heart of nature and in harmony with themselves.
